iGaming Analytics Glossary
A practical reference for the metrics, KPIs and terms that matter most in iGaming analytics. Understanding these definitions — and agreeing on them across your organisation — is the foundation of reliable data.
GGR (Gross Gaming Revenue)
The total amount wagered by players minus winnings paid out, before any deductions. The top-line revenue number operators track before costs.
NGR (Net Gaming Revenue)
GGR minus bonuses, free bets and other direct player costs. The primary revenue KPI for operator financial performance.
Hold / Margin
The percentage of total stakes the operator retains as revenue. Called margin in sportsbook and house edge in casino.
Rake
Commission taken from each poker pot or tournament entry fee. The primary revenue mechanism for poker rooms.
RevShare
An affiliate commission model where partners earn an ongoing percentage of net revenue generated by referred players.
CPA (Cost Per Acquisition)
The total spend required to acquire one new depositing customer, including media, affiliate fees and promotional costs.
FTD (First Time Deposit)
A player's first real-money deposit with an operator. The primary conversion event in acquisition funnels and affiliate commission structures.
NDC (New Depositing Customer)
A newly depositing customer — used in affiliate reporting to count unique players who deposit for the first time in a given period.
Active Player (DAU/WAU/MAU)
A player who has placed at least one bet or completed a session within a defined window (day, week or month).
LTV (Lifetime Value)
The total net revenue expected from a player over their full lifetime with the operator. The key input for acquisition budget decisions.
Predictive LTV
A model-estimated lifetime value assigned early in the player lifecycle, based on behavioural signals rather than accumulated history.
Churn Rate
The percentage of players who stop being active within a given period. The inverse of retention and a core CRM health metric.
Cohort Retention
The share of players from a starting group still active at set intervals (30, 60, 90 days). The standard method for tracking long-term player value.
Average Bet
Total amount wagered divided by number of bets placed. Used to segment players by stake level and detect sudden changes in wagering intensity.
Customer Lifetime Span
Days between a player's registration and their last recorded session. Measures how long a player remains engaged, independent of how much they spent.
Bet Acceptance Rate
The share of submitted bets accepted by the sportsbook. Low rates signal pricing or risk constraints affecting player experience.
In-Play Bet Ratio
The share of total bets placed on events already in progress. Measures live product engagement and operational capacity.
Turnover
The total value of bets placed in a period before settlement. Also called handle or stakes.
Margin by Market
The operator's achieved or theoretical margin on a specific sport, league or bet type. Used to evaluate pricing quality and trader performance.
Settlement Rate
The percentage of bets settled (won, lost or voided) within a given timeframe. Affects cashflow timing and customer satisfaction.
Void Rate
The percentage of bets voided due to cancellations, rule changes or pricing errors. Elevated rates signal data quality or operational issues.
Cashout
A feature letting players settle an open bet before the event concludes at a partial return based on current odds. Net effect on GGR depends on player behaviour patterns.
Bet Builder
A product feature letting players combine multiple selections from the same event into a single accumulator. Also called Same Game Multi — increases average stake but requires real-time correlation risk management.
RTP (Return to Player)
The theoretical percentage of total wagers returned to players over time. The inverse of the house edge.
Session Depth
How much a player wagers relative to their opening balance during a session. An indicator of product stickiness and engagement.
Volatility Class
A game classification by payout frequency and variance. High-volatility games pay less often but in larger amounts.
Game Mix
The distribution of player activity and revenue across game types, providers and titles. Used for lobby strategy and provider negotiations.
Bonus Burn Rate
The speed at which players consume bonus balance relative to wagering requirements. A key input for liability forecasting and cost modelling.
Wagering Requirement
The total amount a player must bet before bonus funds can be withdrawn. Expressed as a multiplier — a 30x requirement on a €10 bonus means €300 must be wagered.
Free Bet
A bonus stake for use on a bet where only the winnings are paid if successful — the original stake is not returned. The stake itself carries no real money value to the player.
Free Spins
A casino bonus granting a set number of slot spins at no cost. Winnings are credited as bonus funds subject to wagering requirements before withdrawal.
Bonus Achieved
The amount of bonus funds successfully converted into real money after wagering requirements are met. Distinguishes what was given from what was actually earned by the player.
Award Bonus
A direct real money credit with no wagering requirement attached — the full amount is immediately withdrawable. Used for VIP rewards, goodwill gestures and manual CRM interventions.
Qualifying Deposit
The specific deposit that triggers a bonus offer, usually the first deposit or one meeting a minimum threshold. Only the qualifying amount activates the associated bonus.
Buy In
The amount a player pays to join a poker game or tournament — chips purchased in cash games or the fixed entry fee plus rake in tournaments.
Buy Out
The amount a player receives when leaving a cash game, equal to their remaining chip stack. The difference between buy in and buy out is the player's net session result.
Number of Hands
The count of individual hands dealt to a player across poker or card game sessions. The primary volume metric for table games — used for activity measurement and rake calculation.
CAC (Customer Acquisition Cost)
The total cost to acquire one paying customer across all marketing, affiliate and promotional spend. The primary acquisition ROI input.
CAC Payback Period
How long it takes a player's net revenue contribution to recover their acquisition cost. Connects spend to long-term profitability.
FTD Quality Score
A composite rating of the long-term value of first-time depositors from a source or affiliate, based on retention and revenue patterns.
Affiliate RevShare
The share of net player revenue paid to an affiliate on an ongoing basis for referred players.
NRC (Net Revenue Contribution)
Net revenue a player generates after deducting all acquisition and retention costs. The ultimate measure of individual player profitability.
